Sacred Feather is a retail store specializing in hats and leather goods. At 417 State Street, we are in the heart of downtown Madison, with the sprawling University of Wisconsin at one end and the State Capitol at the other end. Our mix is about 80% hats and 20% leather. The hand-made leather goods we offer are crafted locally by Tuck.Point Leather.
Established in 1975, Sacred Feather began as a partnership between Paul Henry and Tony Badame. Paul and Tony began as push cart peddlers with a vending cart on State Street. They found a basement location on State Street after a month or so and opened for business as a craft shop. They offered hand made leather goods, jewelry, pottery, artwork, and a few hats. In 1980 Paul left the partnership and Tony moved the shop into the rustic sandstone building that houses Sacred Feather today. The Victorian home turned retail shop is set back a bit from the street and was once a tailor shop and then a lingerie shop. On cold winter days you'll find a fire blazing in the original (coal-burning) fireplace.
